Field Outrider Creative Competition FAQs

We are really proud to present the winners of our first ever Field Outrider creative competition. With the help of an incredible lineup of judges, mentors and friends, we selected these winners from eight categories and will be working with them in varying capacities assignments in the near future. It was an honor to have this caliber of talent as part of our maiden voyage, and it’s an exciting step towards bridging communication gaps between communities. A major thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to all who took home a prize.

Am I giving up my work to Modern Huntsman so you can use it for free?

No, this is not an attempt for us to receive and use free user generated content. Please see the complete Competition Rules for more details but subject to the rights granted to us you retain all other copyrights and rights to future use of the photographs or artistic works. The finalists, winner, and runner-ups of each category and the Audience Choice will be prominently displayed on our website and social channels. The Winner and Runner-up of each category will be featured in the Volume 6: Resilience publication. Otherwise we can ONLY use entrants images for promotion of the Competition or the Volume 6: Resilience publication.

Why are you charging $15 to enter?

We are charging an entry fee on a no purchase necessary basis but to help support us in providing the prizes to the Winner and Runner-up of each Category and the Audience Choice Winner. Please see Competition Rules for complete details.

What happens to my work if I don’t win?

If you are not selected as a Winner or Runner-up then your work would ONLY ever be used by us in promoting the Competition or promoting the Volume 6: Resilience publication. Please see the complete Competition Rules for more details but subject to the rights granted to us you retain all other copyrights and rights to future use of the photographs or artistic works.

How can I submit my work to Modern Huntsman for future consideration if I don’t win?

As an artist in the field we not only appreciate what you do, but know how incredibly imperative it is that the stories you have to share reach the eyes and ears of the world. We would love for you to submit story ideas to us or samples of your work or even completed stories you want featured through the various Modern Huntsman channels. Drop us a line at info@modernhuntsman.com.

What makes this competition different from the others?

This is a competition to truly elevate and promote existing and new artist from the field to the rest of the world. We will attempt to showcase the very best and as a result find ways to collaborate with these artists on future stories that the world needs to read, see, or hear. We have walked similar paths and decided it was time for an organization to focus on the people who truly inspire current, past, and future outdoor enthusiasts. Our Competition is just that; a platform for those in the field to compete in their ability to inspire through photographs and art from the field.

Do I want to get a refund for my entry fee if I pull out before the contest deadline?

Your entry fee, paid at the time of submission, is non-refundable. If there are issues with submitting your images please let us know by sending a message to info@modernhuntsman.com. Pay particular attention to the timeframes in the Competition Rules especially for very narrow response time windows if selected as a Finalist.

Can I submit my work to the sponsor brands?

It is no secret that we do bring paid sponsor brands alongside our incredible stories both digitally and in print. As a media organization we are very different than most because the majority of our business is supported by our followers and not these brands. However, we pride ourselves in brand collaboration just as much as we do in providing top of class inspiring content, so you can rest assured that if you images make sense for a sponsor brand we have, are, or will work with, we will reach out to you first and discuss any opportunity we see that fits well.
