In my early bike racing days, I spent a good amount of time and money working with nutritionists to dial-in my diet for both training and multi-day stage races. A motto I’ve carried with me from those years is, “eat for how you want to feel and perform two days from now.” While retired from competition, it’s an approach that continues to serve me well after days-long jaunts behind the windshield crisscrossing the country to various hunting grounds.
Road trips are often fueled by gas station burritos and drive-thru burgers at 11pm. On past trips where my eating discipline fell to the wayside, I’ve limped into camp feeling sluggish and glassy eyed after days of poor eating behind the wheel. Then I discovered EPIC Provisions.
EPIC Provisions makes convenient protein bars and snacks inspired by nature. Food made with our biological pre-disposition as well as the health of the land and the animals in mind. My current road-trip go-to: EPIC’s Pork Rinds. These snacks are deceptively simple. They taste just as good as your favorite gas station snack at 2am in the truck but are made with skins from pork raised without antibiotics. My personal favorite are the Pink Himalayan + Sea Salt rinds. Each bag provides 11 grams of protein per serving, 2.5 grams of fat, 0 grams of carbs, and are gluten free for the keto-and-paleo eaters out there.
These pork rinds are a great way to eat on the road that leave me feeling good and not racing into the grass along the side of the road at all hours of the night. There’s a reason you rarely see a full rack of these bags on the shelf in stores. On the road, in the field, at camp, or even in front of the game, EPIC’s Pork Rinds get the job done. Give them a try and let us know what you think.
