Back in the Marsh:

Notes from an Infrequent Waterfowler
This past January, Duck Camp brought together a group of hunters, guides, conservationists, and a few curious outsiders for their annual Waterfowl Camp. Festivities were enjoyed at the Bucksnag Hunting Club in Garwood, Texas, a private club that has occupied the same 110-year-old hotel on the Garwood Prairie for over fifty years.

The rice fields that built this town still flood every season. I came in as someone who has spent a lifetime hunting but rarely enough time in the blind to call myself a waterfowler.
Duck Camp, based out of Austin, makes products you can tell are built by those who know hunting best. They outfitted me in their Zip Waders for the early mornings, and what followed was four days of sandhill crane and duck hunting with exceptional company paired with a quality experience made best by well-made comfort.

Details Built to Perform

Very comfortable wader, easy to get on and off. Breathable enough for early teal season if needed but still able to layer up for those late season cold days.

Favorite of Guides & Once a Year hunters alike

The last pair of waders I remember pulling on were my dad's old neoprene chesties as a kid, stiff and heavy enough to make every step feel like a negotiation. The pair from Duck Camp were something else entirely: comfortable and dry when it counted; the pass-through chest pocket sounds like a small thing until you're standing in the cold morning air waiting for shooting light and your hands have nowhere to go. The breathable nylon and polyester shell moved with me across terrain, and by the end of the week, the waders had earned my trust in the way only field time can give it.

Nate Wilson, hunting and fishing guide out of Texas and a Duck Camp ambassador, put it plainly: "Very comfortable wader, easy to get on and off. Breathable enough for early teal season if needed but still able to layer up for those late season cold days

John Dunaway, a ship captain and longtime friend of Modern Huntsman, has worn Duck Camp’s waders across a range most waterfowlers would envy: "These waders have hunted from ponds in Mexico to the flooded timber of Arkansas and a mix in between. They're light enough for the warm weather of teal season while leaving enough room to layer when the ice freezes over."

For someone new to the world of waterfowl, the gear can feel like a barrier to entry. This past January Duck Camp lowered that barrier considerably.
